Quantity Surveyor

Job Description:
The Quantity Surveyor will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient procurement, logistics, and management of construction materials across multiple projects. The individual will act as a liaison between buyers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to maintain seamless operations, optimize procurement costs, and foster strong relationships within the construction ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of construction materials, and strong analytical and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
On-Site Buyer Relations and Logistics Monitoring
- Build and sustain strong relationships with construction site officials including other QS on site to understand project-specific material needs.
- Address on-site procurement concerns and resolve delivery issues promptly to maintain project timelines.
- Coordinate logistics by planning delivery schedules and ensuring efficient transportation of materials from suppliers to project sites.
- Track and monitor shipments to provide buyers with real-time updates and proactively resolve delays or challenges.
Material Schedule Compilation and Aggregation
- Prepare detailed material schedules for construction projects, outlining required materials and quantities for each project phase.
- Aggregate material schedules across multiple projects to identify common materials and achieve economies of scale through bulk purchasing.
- Use material schedules and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) to predict material demand, optimize inventory levels, and streamline procurement workflows.
- Carry out material needs assessment of every client site to come up with projections of construction materials to be used.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Identify and onboard reputable manufacturers and distributors of construction materials to the company’s marketplace.
- Negotiate favorable pricing agreements, delivery terms, and payment conditions with suppliers to benefit both the marketplace and buyers.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with suppliers, fostering trust and opportunities for collaborative growth.
- Market Intelligence and Communication
- Stay updated on trends in the construction industry, including material pricing, competitor activities, and emerging innovations.
- Share market insights with buyers via daily price lists, market updates, and curated communication within the marketplace community.
- Analyze market conditions to identify risks and opportunities and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
- Database Management
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date database of sellers and buyers, including key contact details, product offerings, and pricing agreements.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency to support smooth procurement operations and data-driven decision-making.
- Integration of Logistics and Technology
- Collaborate with third-party logistics providers to optimize warehouse and fulfillment operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Utilize order management software and other digital tools to monitor, track, and enhance the procurement and delivery process.
- Product Knowledge
- Gain and maintain a deep understanding of the construction materials available on the marketplace, including their specifications, applications, and performance.
- Provide expert advice to buyers regarding material selection, compatibility, and quality, ensuring optimal outcomes for construction projects.
- Lead training sessions for internal teams, equipping them with the knowledge needed to support sales and procurement activities effectively.
- Contribute to the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support efficient order fulfillment and operational excellence.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a go-to resource for resolving inquiries and disputes related to materials, ensuring compliance with marketplace quality standards and high customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to design content and campaigns that highlight key construction materials and their applications, enhancing merchant engagement.
- Partner with internal teams to implement initiatives that drive marketplace growth and strengthen relationships with both buyers and sellers.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in quantity surveying, procurement, or a similar role in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, their applications, and market trends.
- Exceptional negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in using procurement, logistics, and project management software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
