We are on a journey to transforming the mobility landscape in Africa and we are looking to hire a Finance Associate to join our diverse team. The Finance Associate will support the finance function in ensuring accurate financial operations, reporting, and compliance. This role combines key responsibilities in transaction monitoring, settlement, and reconciliation while contributing to general finance operations, such as accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting, cash flow management, and assisting with audits. The role requires a detail-oriented professional who can maintain the integrity of financial records and ensure smooth daily finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Monitoring, Settlement, and Reconciliation:
- Monitor daily financial transactions across bank accounts, payment platforms, and internal systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve transaction discrepancies, ensuring timely escalation of issues where required.
- Ensure timely settlement of payments, receipts, and intercompany transfers, liaising with banks and third-party payment service providers.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, vendor statements, and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain accurate logs of reconciliation activities and ensure proper documentation for audit purposes.
General Finance Operations: - Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Process vendor invoices, ensure timely payments, and manage accounts payable aging reports.
Monitor customer invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable to improve cash inflows. - Financial Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts, ensuring timely closure of financial periods.
Support the preparation of accurate financial reports, including variance analysis and commentary. - Cash Flow Management:
Monitor cash balances daily and prepare cash flow forecasts to ensure liquidity needs are met.
Assist in managing cash inflows and outflows to optimize working capital. - Expense Monitoring and Budgeting:
Track operational and departmental expenses against budgets, highlighting variances for management review.
Assist in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts. - Audit and Compliance:
Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary schedules, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and controls.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist in tax-related matters such as VAT filings, withholding tax remittances, and liaising with tax consultants or authorities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Procurement, and HR) to ensure finance processes align with business goals.
Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance function to drive efficiency.
Provide support for finance projects, such as system implementations, reporting enhancements, or process automation initiatives.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Accuracy and timeliness of reconciliations, settlements, and financial reporting.
Reduction in outstanding discrepancies and improvement in transaction monitoring processes.
Timeliness of vendor payments and accounts receivable collections.
Accuracy of cash flow forecasts and budget monitoring.
Successful support during internal and external audits with minimal findings.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, or progress toward certification is an advantage.
3–4 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, with exposure to transaction monitoring, reconciliations, and financial operations.
Prior experience in banking, fintech, or corporate finance operations will be an advantage.
Strong proficiency in Excel (e.g., advanced functions, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., Odoo, SAP, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software).
Understanding of payment systems, bank portals, and financial reporting frameworks.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
