Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Perform oral examinations and diagnose dental conditions in patients.
- Provide routine dental treatments, including fillings, extractions, scaling, polishing, and root canal treatments.
- Manage dental emergencies, such as trauma or severe infections.
- Prescribe medications for dental conditions such as antibiotics and pain relief.
- Collaborate with dental specialists for complex cases requiring advanced treatment (e.g., orthodontics, oral surgery).
- Ensure proper sterilization and infection control in the dental clinic.
Preventive and Public Health Activities:
- Promote oral health education and preventive practices.
- Organize and participate in outreach programs and dental health campaigns.
- Conduct oral health assessments and screenings as part of public health initiatives.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal requirements.
- Assist in the management of dental supplies and equipment, ensuring they are adequately stocked and maintained.
- Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to stay updated on the latest dental techniques and guidelines.
- Prepare reports and participate in departmental meetings to discuss clinic performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Supervise dental support staff, including dental nurses and hygienists, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols.
Liaison and Coordination:
- Coordinate with other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary health care teams to address general health concerns alongside dental issues.
- Refer patients to appropriate specialists for advanced care beyond the scope of general dentistry.
Regulatory and Ethical Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with state and national regulations governing dental practice.
- Uphold ethical standards in patient care, informed consent, and patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to Lagos State Ministry of Health policies and guidelines in delivering dental services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from a recognized institution.
- Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Valid practicing license from MDCN.
- Additional training or certifications in specific dental fields is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with patients and other healthcare providers.
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
- Reporting: Reports to the Head of the Dental Department and other designated supervising officers.
Pay: From ₦120,000.00 per month
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Lagos: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
Education:
- Undergraduate (Preferred)
Experience:
- Human Resources: 1 year (Required)
