Job description:
- Conduct Safety Audits and Inspections: Regularly inspect manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, identifying potential hazards.
- Develop and Implement HSE Policies: Create and enforce policies related to workplace safety, environmental management, and hazardous chemical handling based on legal regulations and industry best practices.
- Risk Assessments: Perform risk assessments for processes and equipment, particularly those involving hazardous chemicals, to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response protocols, including spill control, fire safety, and chemical exposure response, ensuring all employees are trained.
- Accident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, national, and international health, safety, and environmental regulations, such as OSHA, EPA, and chemical safety standards (e.g., REACH).
- Ensure employees in the chemical manufacturing environment wear appropriate PPE, and maintain the necessary equipment for handling hazardous substances.
- Organize and conduct regular safety drills, such as fire drills, chemical spill response, and evacuation procedures, to test the effectiveness of safety plans.
- Monitor air and water quality in and around the facility, ensuring emissions and discharge comply with environmental standards and do not pose health risks.
- Safety Training Programs: Design and deliver training sessions on workplace safety, proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), chemical safety, and emergency procedures for employees.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste to comply with environmental regulations and minimize environmental impact.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all incidents, accidents, and safety violations, preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Oversee the safety protocols for contractors and visitors on-site, ensuring they comply with the company’s HSE policies and procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety and environmental performance, reducing incidents and improving overall workplace safety culture.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on HSE performance, including key safety metrics, compliance status, and areas for improvement.
- Highly effective communication skill
- Understanding of both National & Ogun State legislative requirements for chemical industry, sees himself or herself as a dependable compliance officer for the organization
- Well grounded knowledge and interpretation of the three major ISO standard namely: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & 45001:2018b standards. Must have been parts of internal & external audit sessions. Ist party, 2nd Party and 3rd Party audits.
- Must have Professional Certifications such as NEBOSH CIEH AND IOSH and be an ISPON member.
Salary
N150,000 – N200,000 monthly.
